Staying Healthy and Active during the Holidays with Your Stoma

It is very important to make sure that everyone is staying healthy.  I am a pretty big fan of the whole idea of making sure that health is a big part of my life.  With the holidays coming up I am even more aware of health and happiness because being around friends and family brings those topics up.  We are all happy to see each other and grateful to be around.  It is a time to enjoy being with all of those you love and enjoy some good conversations. But we all know that family pictures are coming and making sure you are in shape for those seems to be half the battle for the holidays and all the sweet treats that come with them.  So even though I have a stoma I am always trying to make sure I am in great shape for the holidays.

This really is not the easiest thing but it is truly important to make sure that your body is going to be healthy.  Honestly, I think having a lot of fat around your stoma is not a good thing.  It is going to be more difficult to deal with with a pooch instead of being in better shape.  Now some of us start off with a pooch when you first get a stoma, and that is ok too.  But it is always wise to make sure you are taking care of your body because it all seems to go together to make for an overall better life.  We all go through phases and hard times and changing the weight is normal during these times, but it is really best to get into a good schedule of working out and especially during the holidays.

I like to set alarms that are truly annoying that make me want to throw my phone during this time of year.  But I know that if I am staying in shape then I will actually enjoy the holiday so much more.  That is because my body will feel more confident and strong and that will always be apart of my personality as well.  It makes conversations go so much more simple during this time of year too.  So getting into a good routine of working out and forcing yourself to do it with annoying alarms really helps me.

I also like to make sure I am using really good ostomy gear too.  There is nothing fun about using old outdated gear when the wonderful creations of 2020 are here.  I am all about finding out the best information about gear online and following people and companies that create the gear too.  You can find lots of Instagrams pages and also Youtube Channels that help to push new products and ideas.  It has helped me get the best gear to work out in and it is also fun to see athletes with stomas do incredible things too.  So don't simply think you know it all or that your doctor knows better than the rest of the world.  I have found some gear items that my Doctor had never heard of and it has expanded his own search into the best products as well. So be wise, and stay healthy during this time of year.
